How the Ella 101 beta works
Plain English, no surprises. This page mirrors the disclosure you accept inside the app when you create an account.
The short version
Ella 101 is an invite-only free beta. You get in with a promo code, you use the full product,
and you pay nothing. Payments are disabled in the software — there is no card form, no trial clock,
and nothing that converts into a charge later. In exchange, you’re using early software: expect rough
edges, tell us about them, and watch them get fixed.
Getting in
- Ask for a code. Email support@ella101.com — codes are handed out personally by Andrey, the founder. A sentence about who’ll be learning (age, subjects) helps.
- Create the account. The account holder signs up with an email address, a password, the student’s first name, and the promo code.
- Consent is explicit. Registration requires the account holder to tick the data-collection and parental-consent boxes — the account can’t be created without them, and the app stores when consent was given.
What the app records, and why
Everything below exists for exactly two reasons: to run the product (Ella has to remember what your student has learned) and to show account holders the truth about each session. Nothing is collected for advertising.
- Account basics — the account holder’s email, the student’s first name, and a password stored only as a scrambled hash (we can’t read it).
- Learning activity — sessions and their times, lessons opened, which modes were used (Learn, Read, Listen, Story, Comics), conversation turns with Ella, and comprehension-check results with mastery. This powers resume, spaced review, and the account-holder report.
- Content you upload — books, PDFs, and comic pages are stored in your account so Ella can teach and read from them. They stay yours.
- Voice — when the mic is used, your student’s speech is converted to text to drive the conversation; the conversation transcript is visible in the account holder view and can be saved as a text file.
- Safety moments — if a conversation touches something serious, Ella pauses the lesson and points your student to a trusted adult, and the moment is recorded for the account holder’s report — account holders only, never lesson material.
- Feedback and errors — bug reports you send, and technical events (like the tutor engine going down) so problems get found and fixed.
Where it lives, and your way out
- Beta data is stored on the server the founder operates for this beta — not handed to ad networks, not sold, not shared for marketing, and not used to train AI models on your student’s words.
- Account holders can read the records that matter in the account holder view at any time.
- Deletion on request: email support@ella101.com and the account and its data are deleted.

What you should expect from beta software
- It’s the real product, early — things will occasionally break, sound odd, or be down while we work on them.
- Ella’s teaching is generated by an AI model and can be wrong. The app tracks and surfaces corrections in the account-holder report’s honesty ledger, but the account holder’s judgment stays in charge.
- You have a direct line to the builder. Reports don’t go into a void — they go to the person who can fix them.
