1. What we collect

• Account basics — account holder email, student’s first name, and a password stored only as a scrambled hash (we cannot read it back).
• Learning activity — sessions and their times, lessons opened, modes used (Learn, Read, Listen, Story, Comics), conversation turns with Ella, comprehension-check results, and mastery/review state. This is what makes resume, spaced review, and the account-holder report work.
• Uploaded content — the books, PDFs, and comic pages you add. Stored so Ella can teach and read from them; they remain yours.
• Voice — when the mic is used, speech is converted to text to drive the conversation. Transcripts are visible in the account holder view and can be saved by the account holder.
• Safety records — if a conversation touches something serious, Ella pauses and points the student to a trusted adult, and the moment is recorded for the account holder alone. Disclosures are never treated as lesson answers.
• Feedback and technical events — bug reports you send and service-health events (for example, the tutor engine going down), used to find and fix problems.

2. Where it lives

Your account and your student’s learning record are held by the operator of this service and by no one else: not sold, not shared, not handed to an advertiser, and deleted when you ask us to delete them. The app itself contains no third-party ad networks or marketing trackers. (This marketing website loads its font files from Google Fonts; that is the only third-party request it makes, and the app does not do that.)

One limit is worth stating plainly, because it affects what you can rely on. Right now a conversation transcript is kept by the computer your student learns on. You can read it in your account holder view on that computer, but it will not appear when you sign in from a different computer or a different browser, and clearing that browser’s data erases it. So if a conversation matters to you, use Save next to it in the account holder view and keep your own copy. We are moving transcripts into your account so they follow you between devices; this page will say so here when that is live.

3. Children

• Ella 101 is used by children as well as adults, so for its youngest students it is built around parental consent: an adult creates the account and must explicitly consent to data collection for their child before it exists. The consent and its timestamp are stored.
• We design to children’s-privacy law (COPPA) as our reference point: collect only what the service needs, show parents their child’s records, and delete on request.
• Camera-based features, where present, are off by default and run only with explicit parent consent; frames are analyzed in the moment to support the lesson, then discarded — the camera is never a recording device.

4. What we never do

• No selling data. No sharing for advertising or marketing.
• No ads shown to anyone.
• No training of AI models on your student’s words or uploaded content.
• No hidden scores: everything the account-holder report shows is a plain count of real session events.

5. Retention and deletion

• Records are kept while the account is active so Ella remembers what your student has learned and account holders keep their history — transcripts, safety records, and progress stay in your family account until you delete them.
• Deletion on request: email support@ella101.com from the account’s registered email, and the account with its learning records, uploads, and transcripts is deleted.

6. Changes

If these practices change during the beta, the change is posted here and inside the app before it takes effect. The commitments in the box at the top are the point of the product — they are not planned to change.
